Haiti Daily Missionary Reports

Jason is sending daily reports of their work in Haiti.  Below are his emails.

Thursday 9/22/2011 AM - Haiti Mission Team Report

We finished the house today. The only thing the haitians will have to do is stucco and put the metal windows in. The ministry team did VBS again today.

This afternoon we are going to the beach to relax and enjoy a bit of Haitian comfort whatever that is.  The place we are going to is wahoo bay.  It is a resort place that was bought by a local. They also have a market there so that we can buy some authentic Haitian stuff.

Tomorrow is the last day.  We are leaving the compound at 9 to head home.  We have to be at the airport at least 2 hours before and to make sure our bags get on the plane.

We are so filled and can't wait to share what God has done here.

Thursday 9/22/2011 AM - Haiti Mission Team Report (update)

Day 6 was a great day.  City blue was a very desperate place.  Samaritans purse has come in and built 100s of huts in the square area.

Thursday 9/22/2011 AM - Haiti Mission Team Report

We got all the concrete done on the house today.  All that is left is the roof and the stucco and the paint for the sides. We have put up a house that takes 2 weeks if they have all the material in only 3 days. It looks great. Like I have said in previous emails it is a very small house but the people will be able to get out of the rain. The Haitian people don't stay in the house anyway during the day so it will be perfect for them.

The ministry team had a great day too. The passed out school uniforms and backpacks for the school kids today.  They said it was a mad house. There are so many kids here and there is so much that can be done.  We went in a village yesterday that only has 7 bibles for the entire village or at least, and I am vaguely guessing, 2000 people. 7 bibles that is it.  I personal can think of at least 7 not counting the electronic ones that I have alone.  It is pitiful here.

We are waiting now after lunch to go to blue city or tent city.  There will be thousands of people here.  We do not have enough food for all of them.  We are giving them rice that will be about 26 servings. They go without for days and days. When it rains you cant drive there nor can they stay away from the rain.  Plywood and tarps. This is a very desperate place.

We will tell you more when we return.

Wednesday 9/21/2011 AM - Haiti Mission Team Report

What a great day. We drove a few miles from the compound down this long road.  We walked around this entire village and shared with everyone that will listen.  We know of at least 6 people that were saved.  It was a great experience.

Tonight after supper we bagged rice to give away at the tent city tomorrow. This will be an experience. These people have been in these tents since the earthquake.  No food, no shelter.  It has flooded every night so u can imagine what it would be like.

Tuesday 9/20/2011 AM - Haiti Mission Team Report

What a day.  There was so much we did today.  We are spent for the day. God is good in allowing us to be here.

We had at least 300 kids today and we took up a collection in order to feed them. So I am sure there will be lots more.  I don't know where they come from.  We sang songs with them, taught a bible study, and had some games with only 10 adults.  You would be amazed at the way the kids behaved. The first 70 sat in the chairs for at least 45 minutes waiting for the others to show up.

We taught the how to play baseball outside.  That was funny.

After we ate lunch we had the great opportunity to go from house to house. We met lots of people and Brian, Mitzi, Kristina, and I each talked to someone more than once about the Lord.  We don't know if we had any decisions but we sure planted seeds and passed out 100s of tracts to everyone we saw.  It was great to see everyone witness and share a little about what Jesus can do for them.

The construction team got all the walls up and the middle wall of the house. The house only has 2 rooms. And when I say rooms I am saying very small. There is no bathroom just 2 rooms.

What a great and blessed and filling day.  It is so awesome to be able to help people.  That is exactly what God wants us to do everywhere. Be a blessing to everyone you see and share the most important thing in life to them... The gospel.

What a day!!

Half of our group did VBS and they had... Brace yourself... 250 kids!  Yes that is awesome.  We are switching tomorrow and helping them.  We also took up a collection to be able to feed the kids that come.  It cost $100 a meal to feed them.  I don't know how much but it was enough.

Our group did construction.  We got all four walls up in the house.  Incredible.  What we will do in 3 days normally takes 2 weeks IF they have all the supplies.  Houses here are not build like those in the states.  It could take a long time to finish one.  Money is hard to come by.

After lunch we went back to the construction site and the ones that did VBS went into the community and went witnessing.  They passed out tracks and talked to lots of people about the gospel.  It was a great day.  The Haitian people have surprised us so much with their love and the fact that they look out for us.  Strange but cool.

We love yall and look forward to the coming days.

Monday 9/19/2011 AM - Haiti Mission Team Report

Today we begin our projects.  Especially pray for divine appointments with the people that we will be talking to today.

We learned last night that a big pressure for accepting Jesus here is people don't have nice clothes to wear to church so they don't want to become a Christian because some churches will turn them away.  Another reason was they don't think they can stay saved.  They think it will be too hard.  Sad.

10 people from the group will be doing VBS next to the house we are staying in in the compound.  There could be upwards of 100 kids.

Another 10 people will be building a house for a family that is homeless because of the earthquake.  They will eventually have 36 of the 2 room block houses, probably 30 by 20 in size.

2 pastors are leading a pastors conference for local pastors to teach the leadership and administration.  Barnwell missionaries are doing construction today and VBS tomorrow.

I have taken so many pictures, some of them don't tell the story very well, but I hope you can get a glimpse of the way Haitians live.  Worship was amazing yesterday morning.  Can't remember if I have already told yall.  Their passion and zeal is exciting.  They sang at least 2 songs we knew from the states.  Makes me aware that I need to pray more globally more often for our brothers and sisters around the world.

We have kitchen duty today.  We all are sharing responsibility for cooking in the house.  The open air house we are staying in is nice.  It gets cool enough at night to get a good sleep.  People go to bed at like 8 though and get up at 5ish.  The roosters are loud and wake up at 3 in the morning and do it for 2 or 3 hours.

Keep you guys updated as the days go by.

Sunday 9/18/2011 AM - Haiti Mission Team Report

We just got done with church.  What a great experience.  We recognized several songs that we sing in english.  The service was 2 hrs long.  We sang some and then there would be some announcements and then more singing and preaching.  The altar time was amazing.  There were at least 250 people there and probably some 50 or more at the altar.

Now we are waiting on lunch and then we will be going to each site that we will be doing ministry and construction.

The kids are everywhere.  I brought a few braclets and hats and they mob u to get as much as they can.  This morning I threw candy over the walls of our compound to the kids on the outside.  They all know your name and want as much as u will give them.

It is so easy to see the hopelessness here, but God is awesome and he loves us all.  To God be the glory!!

Saturday 9/17/2011 AM - Haiti Mission Team Report

Wow. I have no words to describe what it is like here.  We rode to the place where they buried 200,000 peoplel after the earthquake.  It was a terrible feeling.  We got here safely, without any problems.  The haiti airport was a bit crazy and scary at times because of so many haitians being right next to us on the way out.

When I say there are no words I mean that.  It is so sad to see the tent cities that are littering the sides of the street.  They had market today and the amount of people was staggering.

Keep praying for us.  We are so excited about what we will be doing.  Tomorrow we will go to church and to each site that we will be doing stuff at.

We love you and miss u!

To God be the glory!!
